The U.S. General Services Administration selected Stephen Day Architecture as part of a team led by ECH Architecture and deemed “most highly qualified” by the GSA to assist with a series of rehabilitations for this beautiful National Register post office and courtrooms in downtown Spokane. The initial tasks have involved analysis of the ADA-related issues in two prominent and very significant marble staircases in the building, at the main stair and the elegant Bankruptcy Court double staircase, including designing new handrails that will be distinct from the original architecture but compatible with this remarkable building. Designed by noted federal architect James Knox Taylor in 1907, the building has retained an extraordinarily high degree of historic integrity.
